Bosnia's tripartite Presidency member Dragan Covic spoke about the changes to Bosnia's Election Law and the issue of Bosnia's past and its interpretation.

Covic held a lecture before the Croatian Generals’ Assembly on the topic “Solution of the Croat question for the European Bosnia and Herzegovina.”

During the lecture, Covic said that the main topic of the lecture was the position of the Croat people in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the European Bosnia.  

“We want to ensure the legitimacy of representation of the Croat people in Bosnia, given that this is an election year and we need to make changes to the Election Law, because we have a Constitutional Court's decision. Equality of the Croat people is not a matter of one moment, individual or some party,” said Covic.  

The Constitutional Court of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) entity ruled that some articles of Bossnia's Election Law must be amended in order to ensure equal representation of Croats in FBiH.  

He pointed out that Bosnia's Euro-Atlantic integration must inevitably be linked to the internal reorganization of Bosnia, above all the constitutional reorganization, in order to ensure the full equality of the Croat, Bosniak and Serb people in Bosnia.  

“We insist that the changes to Bosnia's Election Law must be complete. We must have an amendment regarding the election members of Bosnia's Presidency, the House of Peoples and, if possible, the City of Mostar,” Covic said.  

He added that the deadline for these solutions expires in ten days, because the general election will be announced at least 150 days prior to the day of its maintenance.  

“There is still no political agreement, there is an apparent political will, and everyone supports the change, but there is no will to take concrete steps,” said Covic.  

According to Covic, the biggest obstacle to a political agreement on the current political issues are the different views on the common, war past.
