Bosnia and Herzegovina's Presidency Chairman Bakir Izetbegovic has been outvoted by other two members of Bosnia's tripartite Presidency when he attempted to include the signing of an agreement between the state of Bosnia and the Islamic Community in Bosnia, on today's session of the Presidency.
Izetbegovic said that the other two Presidency members Dragan Covic and Mladen Ivanic rejected his proposal, which is the first instance that Izetbegovic has been outvoted since the beginning of his mandate, said the N1 reporter Boris Brezo.
In a statement to the press, Izetbegovic said that Ivanic once agreed to the modified agreement with the Islamic Community, after which Covic opposed the signing of the agreement.
After the Presidency session, Ivanic said that Izetbegovic was aware that his proposal would be rejected.
“Obviously someone needs a conflict. The one who wants conflict must be prepared for such an outcome,” Ivanic said.
Ivanic also clarified his request for the modification of the agreement.
“I asked that the agreement says that ‘Bosnia does not prevent the faithful from attending the Friday prayer and wearing of appropriate garments,’ instead of ‘Bosnia guarantees the right of the faithful to attend the Friday prayer and wearing of appropriate garments,'” Ivanic added.
Bosnia's tripartite presidency consists of representatives of each of constituent peoples in Bosnia: a Bosniak member, a Serb member, and a Croat member.
The said agreement would regulate the rights of Muslims in institutions of the state and in entity institutions and the legal relations between the state and the Islamic Community in Bosnia.
