President of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Bosnia and Herzegovina Irena Hadziabdic said that the general election in Bosnia and Herzegovina will most probably be announced on May eight. She also said that the CEC cannot deal with the changes to Bosnia's Election Law.

Hadziabdic said that the CEC members are present in the work of inter-party groups, but that the amendments to Bosnia’s Election Law, currently being discussed outside the Bosnian Parliament, under the auspices of certain embassies, are a political activity that completely falls within the implementation of the verdict of the Bosnian Constitutional Court.

“Implementation of that verdict is not within the CEC competencies. Everyone knows that the CEC has certain competencies, but due to everything that had previously happened and due to the huge pressure we are under, CEC will not deal with this issue,” said Hadziabdic. “We are entering the general election without any defined rules. We will adopt some additional regulations and we will announce the general election. All the responsibility is now on the political actors.”

“As long as the legislator is under the obligation to fulfil the Constitutional Court's verdict we will wait. We will announce the elections between May seventh and ninth. Most probably on May eight. Such are the plans, but one cannot plan anything in Bosnia, today,” Hadziabdic concluded.

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Constitutional Court issued a verdict deleting several articles from the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina due to unequal representation of peoples in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina entity. All the previous talks by all the major parties in FBiH on the said Law have failed.
