The Outgoing British Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Edward Ferguson met separately with Bosnia's tripartite Presidency member Mladen Ivanic and the Republika Srpska (RS) entity's Prime Minister Zeljka Cvijanovic to discuss further political and economic reforms at the state and entity level, and changes to Bosnia's Election Law.
During a meeting with Ivanic, who is a Serb representative from RS in the Presidency, the interlocutors agreed that amendments to the Election Law need to be agreed on as soon as possible in order to ensure the implementation of the general election results, to be held in October 2018. The two conclude that this obligation lies primarily on the major parties from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) entity.
During the other meeting, Ferguson and Cvijannovic concluded that the reform measures implemented in RS resulted in a positive economic growth in this entity. Cvijanovic and Ferguson talked about the current political and economic topics in Bosnia and RS, with a special emphasis on Bosnia's European integration process and the implementation the Reform Agenda which is a set of reforms which all levels of the Bosnian Government must implement prior to the beginning of Bosnia's EU accession talks.
Cvijanovic stressed that economy remains the top priority of RS Government's work, with an emphasis on the strategic approach in creating a framework for the implementation of development programs and attracting local and foreign investments and raising the living standard of RS citizens.
They too touched upon the current topics concerning the upcoming general election and the Election Law reform.
Bosnia's Constitutional Court issued a verdict two years ago, deleting several articles from the State Election Law due to unequal representation of constituent peoples in the House of Peoples of FBiH.
