Bosnia’s three Presidency members left a “good impression” at Wednesday’s meeting with German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, in Berlin, according to the Croat member, Dragan Covic.

“It was a long meeting. All three of us had the opportunity to lay out our different views of the relations in Bosnia,” Covic said, adding that he was satisfied with the meeting.

Merkel and Bosnia’s Presidents spoke about electoral legislation and the upcoming general elections as well, he said.

“We left an impression that we are doing all we can to stabilize Bosnia and Herzegovina, so that there is no crisis after the election, which many have predicted because we have not changed the election law in due time,” Covic said.

Two years ago, the Constitutional Court of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) entity ruled that some articles of Bosnia's Election Law must be amended in order to ensure equal representation of Croats in the Federation (FBiH), Bosnia’s semi-autonomous entity shared by Bosniaks and Croats.

Bosnia’s Central Election Commission (CIK) announced elections for October 7 this year. Should the Election Law issue remain unresolved, the results of the election may not be legitimate, or implemented at all.

Covic said the support of Chancellor Merkel and her team is important to him, so that “the least numerous ethnic group in Bosnia can legitimately elect its representatives”.

“I am glad that at todays dinner with German Chancellor Merkel we spoke of the political situation and of what the priority is – the Euro-atlantic path of Bosnia,” Covic said after the meeting.
