Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is a “powerful Muslim leader” and many “insecure Bosniaks” in Bosnia don’t like him, Bosniak Presidency member Bakir Izetbegovic said at an event organised by the Youth Association of his Party of Democratic Action (SDA).

The Turkish President said he intends to hold a Sarajevo rally for the Turkish diaspora in Europe. ‘Zetra’, the sports hall where the event is to take place on May 20, has already been booked.

“President Erdogan is coming to Zetra next week. For some reason, many in the West don’t like our friend, and there are a number of insecure Bosniaks that don’t like him in our country,” Izetbegovic said.

“Their problem is that he is a powerful Muslim leader like no other has been for quite some time. They don’t have a problem with Muslims who are primitive, uneducated, who are no competition to them,” Izetbegovic said. But when a Muslim leader of a country like Turkey manages to have his country climb up ten places in regard to economic development, “to achieve miracles, build the largest airport in the world while facing difficulties with internal terrorism, internal war and all those wars taking place close to its borders, all this while caring for three million refugees – such a man is bothering them.”

“We will show that he has friends who are proud of him,” the SDA President said.

He said that, when Erdogan arrives in Bosnia next week, he will speak with him about how the highway towards Belgrade, over Tuzla and back via Visegrad will be financed.
