Fmr security minister: Create a plan for migrant crisis

Bosnia's Council of ministers, entity and cantonal governments should urgently act today and not on Monday, and create a plan which would put the migrant crisis under control, said former Security Minister Sadik Ahmetovic on Friday.

Commenting the ongoing issue of increasing number of migrants finding a temporary shelter in Bosnia on their way to final destinations in the western Europe, Sadikovic said the state institutions had to establish control over this matter.

“If the migrant crisis gets under control of the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, we won't have a problem,” stressed Sadikovic.

According to the Border Police, more than 1,200 migrants were discovered in the attempt of or after entering Bosnia. Out of this number, some 400 illegal migrants were registered only in April, three times more than in January 2018.

The former minister warned that the state institutions failed to act. “The issue of migrants must be controlled in a way that those people are accepted in a humane manner,” added Sadikovic.

Chairman of the Council of Ministers Denis Zvizdic stated earlier on Friday that a consultative meeting on the issue of migrants would be held on Monday, May 14.
