US and EU Ambassadors in Bosnia Maureen Cormack and Lars-Gunnar Wigemark welcomed the reform engagement of Bosnia's Council of Ministers (CoM) and expressed full support to the country's Euro-Atlantic integration, said the CoM on Friday after the ambassadors' meeting with the Council Chairman Denis Zvizdic.
Zvizdic reiterated the CoM's commitment to the reform processes as “the only path leading to the accelerated economic development and improvement of living standards of Bosnia's citizens,” the CoM said.
According to Zvizdic, Bosnia has already made a significant step on that road by applying for the European Union (EU) membership and he added he expected a soon activation of the Membership Action Plan (MAP) for the NATO.
Bosnia formally applied for the EU membership in February 2016 and two years later submitted the answers to the European Commission's Questionnaire as a part of the regular accession procedure. As for the NATO integration, the country has yet to fulfil one of the main conditions to enter the alliance – the registration of dozens of military facilities from the local level to the state government. The same condition has to be met for activation of the MAP, which was launched in 2010.
The officials also discussed the ongoing issue of increasing number of migrants finding a temporary shelter in Bosnia on their way to final destinations in the western Europe, and the CoM chairman informed the ambassadors that institutions in charge have been tasked to act in line with their competences, the CoM said.
