The “Republika Srpska Day” celebration has cost the citizens of the Republika Srpska (RS) entity nearly BAM 500,000 (around EUR 250.000).

“The expenses in the amount of nearly BAM 500,000 (EUR 250,000) on account of marking of the RS Day refer to the services performed in the period December 2016 – January 2017,” said the The Main RS Audit Service for the RS public sector in its report on the conducted financial audit of the RS President's Service in 2017.

Last year, on January 9th, the RS authorities organized a march down the streets of Banjaluka, in spite of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s decision stating that the event is unconstitutional.

On November 26th, 2015, the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina had established that January 9th was unconstitutional as the RS Day.

Despite this decision, the Referendum Commission of the RS conducted a referendum in the RS which the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina prohibited and later annulled its results.

The referendum question was: “Do you support the decision that January 9th be marked and celebrated as the RS Day?”
