Relations between the US and Bosnia are friendly and stable, and the US will continue to support Bosnia’s Euro-Atlantic integration, the Director for European Affairs at the US National Security Council, William Berkley, and members of Bosnia’s tripartite Presidency concluded at a meeting on Wednesday.
Berkley said his visit represents the interest of the US in regard to the strengthening of Bosnia’s institutions and the rule of law and democracy, as well as the country’s continued path toward the EU and NATO, a Presidency press statement said.
The Presidency also said the US will also support further efforts toward achieving an agreement on the burning issue of changes to Bosnia’s Election Law.
The US is satisfied with Bosnia’s security policies, especially in regard to the fight against terrorism and extremism, an area where the two countries are partners as members of a global coalition committed to the fight against ISIS, the Presidency’s press release said.
The meeting also touched upon the activities and measures to prevent illegal migrations and the strengthening of Bosnia’s capacities for the registration, humane acceptance and treatment of migrants who are currently on Bosnian territory.
Serb Presidency member Mladen Ivanic, who could not make it to the meeting, was represented by his advisor, Zoran Djeric.
The meeting was also attended by US Ambassador to Bosnia, Maureen Cormack and US vice assistant Secretary of State, Matthew Palmer.
