Bosnia’s Central Election Commission (CEC) rejected the Serb Radical Party dr. Vojislav Seselj's application for the upcoming general election in Bosnia and Herzegovina along with five independent candidates and three other parties' applications.

The CEC refused to verify the application of the Serb Radical Party dr. Vojislav Seselj from the Republika Srpska (RS) entity for the upcoming general election to be held on October 7.

Their decision states the party contains the name of Vojislav Seselj, a convicted war criminal which is why their application was denied.

The party submitted an appeal to this decision to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“The CEC believes that his (Seselj’s) name violates the basic principle of all democratic elections which is the principle of a free election, election without fear. However, since the case has already been submitted to the court, we would not make further comments on our decision,” the CEC spokesperson told N1.

The Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals in The Hague has sentenced the leader of the Serbian Radical Party (a parent party of the RS SRS) Vojislav Seselj to 10 years in prison for inciting and committing the persecution of Croats in 1992 in the village of Hrtkovci in Vojvodina, Serbia.

The verdict concluded that Seselj had already served the sentence since he was in custody from 2003 to 2014 in The Hague.
