The Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) entity's Police Agency (FUP) is ready to help all other police agencies in dealing with the migrant issue in Bosnia, said FUP Director Dragan Lukac.
A meeting of the Coordination of FUP Director and cantonal police commissioners was set for June 26 and 27, during which police commissioners from the Una-Sana Canton, the Sarajevo Canton and the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton will discuss the migrant situation in the FBiH.
“We have signed agreements with all the cantonal interior ministries and we are ready to set our resources at their disposal, to engage in the handling of the situation and in solving of potential crimes. We can place all our forensics and investigative resources at their disposal,” Lukac said.
He pointed out that the FUP has good cooperation with other police bodies in the FBiH.
His agency is ready to provide help in solving or preventing any security threat or challenge but they cannot spear a bigger number of units for longer periods of time.
So far, this police agency did not receive calls for assistance to cantonal police agencies, but they did pass some intelligence information to cantonal police agencies.
From the beginning of 2018, Bosnia has become part of the new migrant route. Migrants travelling to the Western European countries have been entering Bosnia mostly from the direction of Serbia and Montenegro, in an attempt to cross the border with the Republic Croatia, on their way to EU.
So far, more than 5,000 migrants entered Bosnia. They mostly reside in Sarajevo, Bihac and Velika Kladusa where the local authorities have been asking for assistance from higher levels of government in finding accommodation for them, and the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina has been requesting for the employment of additional 500 employees in order to monitor the border more efficiently.
