Bosnia and Herzegovina alone is unable to stop the migrant crisis, said Security Minister Dragan Mektic, addressing the members of the state Parliament on Wednesday.

Speaking before the parliament, Mektic said some 6,500 migrants entered the country since the beginning of the year but that 4,000 already left.

He pointed out the problem of lack of border police officers, more precisely 500 of them. According to Mektic, no police agency meets more than 65 percent of staff requirement.

“We demand additional border police officers, but there're no funds for that. I begged the representatives of the international community and embassies to help us, but we lack basic resources to regroup the police officers,” said the minister.

Mektic also noted that the migrant issue is not present in Bosnia only, adding that there are some 6,000 migrants in Serbia at the moment.
