"Bosnia is a good country, i'd like to stay"

The migrant situation in Bihac is dramatic. Every day, 50 to 70 new migrants arrive in this town in the north of Bosnia. They are sleeping in ruined buildings and the Red Cross is struggling to keep up.

Every day at 2:30 pm, hundreds of migrants are queuing up for food. This is the only free meal they receive every day. The area where they sleep and live is inadequate in every way, but it has to do because more of them are coming every day and the Red Cross say the donations are getting scarcer.

Between 500 and 700 meals a day are prepared by the Red Cross every day and the Red Cross officials predict that Bihac will likely become a migrant centre.

One of the migrants N1 managed to speak to is Asif Khan who helps the Red Cross hand out food and clean up. He said he likes living in Bosnia and he would like to stay in the country.

“I’m tired and Bosnia is a beautiful country. I don’t need money, I just need a peaceful country, an education and a job. Many migrants want to go to Germany, France, Italy, but I want an asylum. I’ve seen many countries but Bosnia was the most beautiful so far,” Khan said.

Considering the bad hygienic condition in the migrant camp and the ruins which they reside in, the Red Cross appeal to the competent state and health care institutions to help them because there are no doctors currently in the field.
