Bosnian state television (BHRT) Management Board held a session, Monday, on the topic of the dismissal of BHT1’s news programme Editor in Chief Marko Radoja. According to N1’a Adisa Imamovic the Board discussed the entire situation but failed to reach a decision.
The session was convened after Radoja suggested all BHT1 presenters not to wear the “Flower of Srebrenica,” a badge symbol of the Srebrenica genocide on the anniversary of the genocide and mass burial of 35 Srebrenica victims which have been identified over the past year.
After all the information is submitted, the Board will hold another session and then make a decision concerning this case. The Board cannot dismiss the Editor in Chief, in spite the fact that the Board is the one who names persons for this post. Only the TV’s General Manager can dismiss the Editor in Chief. Management Board member Zoran Kesic said that all the Board’s decisions will be made by consensus.
The Board concluded that Radoja, who did not attend the session because he was not invited, received more than 300 death threats in less than 48 hours. The reason he was not invited is that the Board did not want the session to look like Radoja’s hearing.
The BHT1 news programme Editor in Chief said earlier that he only asked the presenters to respect the BHRT’s statute and the independence of the public service.
