Bosnia’s Presidency member Dragan Covic held a traditional “Coffee with the press” event where he talks with media representatives informally and in a friendly atmosphere.
“You will never hear me say the word ‘division’. Bosnia is my homeland. I see it as a country tailored to the needs of all three nations, with legitimate representation,” Covic told the numerous media representatives.
Asked to comment on allegations that he and Republika Srpska entity President Milorad Dodik are working on the alleged division of Bosnia and Herzegovina Covic answered: “It of wasn’t funny, it would sad. We are doing everything in our power to strengthen Bosnia, not to divide it.”
However, he noted he was worried about the migrant crisis in the country.
“We (the Presidency) will have a meeting, Tuesday, with representatives of all the security agencies in the country,” he added.
Speaking about the upcoming general election in Bosnia, Covic expressed hope that “in the next three months, we will create an atmosphere suitable for democratic societies.”
“I am convinced we will be able to implement election results,” he stressed and added that parliamentary activities at the state and the level of the entity of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, were decreased lately.
Bosnia consists of two semi-autonomous entities, the Serb-dominated RS and the Bosniak-Croat dominated FBiH.
“I am sorry we failed to conclude the story concerning the state Election Law. We caused great harm to Bosnia,” Covic concluded.
Two years ago the Constitutional Court ruled that some provisions of the Election Law were inconsistent with the state Constitution. Since then the authorities have failed to act in the legally allowed timeframe resulting in a further court ruling to delete two sections of the Election Law that treats the matter of representation in the FBiH House of Peoples.
