Bosnia and Herzegovina sitting volleyball national team, the most decorated team in the country, has returned to Bosnia after winning the silver medal at the 2018 sitting volleyball world championship in the Netherlands last week.
Numerous citizens welcomed the runner-up team of the 2018 championship Tuesday afternoon after landing at the Tuzla airport, in the northern Bosnia.
The team is the most decorated in Bosnia and Herzegovina sport, having won two Paralympic volleyball gold medals, three Paralympic silver medals, three world cup titles and nine European Championships straight, plus four silver and two bronze medals from other international competitions. They failed to win the fourth world cup title, losing to Iran’s national team.
“I think we made a great success, said the team captain Sabahudin Delalic, adding that they lacked four important players during the competition.
The team nominated for the 2020 Summer Paralympics.
“We hope there will be more of the Olympic and Paralympic athletes from Bosnia and Herzegovina there, and I hope that this and other sports successes will make the competent ones to make a step more and to ensure better conditions for all athletes,” said Ermin Jusufovic, one of the team members. He added that this was the most valuable medal so far although it was not a gold one.
Bosnian team reached the finals eliminating the European champion Russia as well as the teams of Iraq, Egypt and Poland, and beating the Brazilian team in semifinals.
