The Appellate Chamber of Bosnia’s War Crimes Court confirmed a first instance acquittal of Brane Planojevic, who stood accused of murder, torture and rape of civilians in a wartime prison camp in eastern Bosnia.
The indictment accused Planojevic of having committed war crimes against civilians and prisoners of war as a guard of a Bosnian Serb prison camp in Rogatica.
The prosecution appealed his acquittal, claiming that the court had not correctly established all the facts in his case and that a new trial was necessary.
However, these arguments were dismissed by the Appeals Chamber on Thursday.
Planojevic was accused of having been the one who would enter the cells during the night and take the imprisoned Bosniak civilians to another room where some of them were beaten to death.
