'Ruling structures do not truly care about EU membership'

In terms of democratic integrity, the upcoming election in Bosnia and Herzegovina may be the worst election ever, warned Jasmin Mujanovic, a political analyst specialised in the southeast European and international affairs.

Speaking for N1, Mujanovic said the situation in Bosnia was very difficult, mostly owing to the elections that are taking place in early October this year. According to him, “the key political parties” know they can no longer survive within a fair system and are preparing to “sabotage everything left from democratic integrity in this country.” He specified he was referring here to the ruling Croat Democratic Union (HDZ BiH), the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) and the Party of Democratic Action (SDA).

“All these crucial nationalist actors in the country are preparing for some dangerous games in October and the period right after October,” added Mujanovic.

Commenting the European integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the analyst said that the ruling structures had no capacity nor they truly cared about the membership in the European Union “because the EU membership means law, rights, legal consequences and functional political system which exists even in Croatia.”

“These ruling structures don’t care about the memberships in the EU and the NATO because it is better this way for them,” he concluded.
