Serbia’s Vucic: No lasting solution for Kosovo yet

There will not be any permanent solution to Kosovo's problem, and the citizens will know everything, all political, social and economic consequences of having an agreement or not, Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic told reporters on Tuesday.

He said that the property issue would be a critical point, adding that “we are far from a solution, but we have come to the talks about a compromise.”

Vucic said that Serbia would have many things to deal with in September (regarding Kosovo), but promised the people of Serbia that there “won’t be any secret solution, if any, what I doubt listening to the latest statements from Pristina.”

However, he added, he would not allow that the Kosovo Serbs were left without their rights.

“If there will be a solution, Serbia will get more than the previous plans suggested. Will that be a reason for celebration? No, not all. But if we reach an agreement they won’t have a cause to celebrate either,” Vucic added.

“The citizens will have to show the responsibility, and I will not run away from mine. If we don’t win the nation's support, I will pay a political price and will bear political consequences. People will know everything and will have a clear picture to decide on a definite opinion about a potential agreement which we could reach one day,” he said.

Referring to the issue of the Community of Serb Municipalities (CSM) in Kosovo, which has not been solved for years due to Pristina's unreadiness to respect the deadlines given by the European Union, Vucic asked: “What is left for the Serbs to do?”

“To form the CSM unilaterally and make Pristina enter the north and take control of vital institutions?”
