Bosniak member of Bosnia and Herzegovina's tripartite Presidency Bakir Izetbegovic said in Sarajevo on Wednesday that his party, the Party of Democratic Action (SDA), was still following the principles established by its first and late president, Alija Izetbegovic, which are the fight against corruption and nepotism.
Speaking at a ceremony marking the 93rd anniversary of Alija Izetbegovic's birth, the current SDA leader said the party is getting rid of “bad people” and that he was glad he was surrounded by “the clean ones.”
“There were bad people in Alija's time too, as he said, the power makes people bad and as a magnet, it attracts bad people. We are cleaning SDA from those people. A fish is cleaned from its head.,” said Izetbegovic.
The Presidency member expressed discontent with the work of state judiciary, noting that “the big ones” often manage to get away.
“We are witnessing dozens of processes against influential persons who own millions, airplanes, towers and so on, and then this is being fixed on small people. This is where the authority of the judiciary is tried to be gained again,” said Izetbegovic, without specifying to whom he referred.
Speaking of the Bosnia's military industry development, the Bosniak leader said there are obstacles to the modernisation of the country's defence sector.
“That's why I said we would compensate that with the strengthening of the military industry because weakness attracts bullies. It also attracts the neighbours and everyone to try solving the issues at your expense, and to try to complete, while using force, what was not done in 1992 and 1993,” stressed Izetbegovic.
“It is good both for us and them that Bosnia and Herzegovina is strong. Last time they were wrong and broke their teeth, and we suffered a lot. I repeat, we will be strengthening the military industry both for our and for the sake of potential aggressors to give up on time, underlined Izetbegovic.
A ceremony to mark the birthday of the first and late President of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and SDA founder, Alija Izetbegovic, is marked every year with a series of events.
