A total of 49 feature films from 35 countries have been recommended for a nomination for the 2018 European Film Awards (EFA) including Men Don’t Cry by Bosnian director Alen Drljevic.

In the following weeks, more than 3,500 members of the European Film Academy will vote for the nominations in several categories, for the best European feature film, best director, best actor, best actress and best scenarist. The nominations will be announced on November 10 this year, at the European Film Festival in Seville, Spain.

The film plot brings together war veterans of different nationalities for a workshop ‘The war ended 20 years ago but not for you’, taking place in the Bosnian mountains. The group embarks on this journey because they were promised a monetary reward they all desperately need to solve the personal problems they are facing – unemployment, divorce and other financial struggles.

Men Don’t Cry was selected but not nominated as the Bosnian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 90th Academy Awards. The film among others won the 2017 Special Jury Prize at the 52nd Karlovy Vary International Festival and the prestigious Dragon Award for the Best International Film at the 41st Goteborg Film Festival.

The EFA jury will also decide on the EFA Excellence Awards within the categories for the best cinematographer, editor, production designer, costume designer, hair and make-up artist, composer, sound designer and visual effect supervisor.

The award ceremony will be held in Seville on December 15.
