FM: Bosnia and Belgrade-Pristina talks not directly related

There is no reason to start anything risky for the Republika Srpska (RS), Bosnia's Serb-dominated entity, and the RS' position should not be seen as an obstacle to the agreement between Belgrade and Pristina, Foreign Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Igor Crnadak, told N1.

According to the minister, the RS, Bosnia's entity he is representing in the state institutions, has enough of the mechanisms to protect its status within Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He does not think Bosnia and the Belgrade-Pristina talks are related.

“I don't see a direct relation. I think that the RS has enough of the mechanisms of protection within Bosnia and Herzegovina to preserve its positions. There is no single reason for us to enter some things that are risky for the RS,” Crnadak said, adding that the status of the RS within Bosnia should not be an obstacle to the Belgrade-Pristina agreement.

Asked if there are certain forces in Bosnia who would like to redraw the borders, he replied, “it is one thing what someone wants and has in their head, but the political and international reality is a completely different thing.”

Crnadak is attending a regional conference in Dubrovnik, the Dubrovnik Forum, which focuses this year on challenges caused by migrations, terrorism, climate change and various asymmetric threats facing Europe and the wider Mediterranean area on the political, security, economic, social and cultural fronts.

“What matters the most is that Belgrade and Pristina talk as much as possible, and reach what's most acceptable for both sides. I wouldn't like to comment in advance something that hasn't happened,” Crnadak said.
