The House of Representatives (HoR) on Tuesday rejected to consider an initiative for the dismissal of the country’s Security Minister.

Lawmakers voted against the initiative being included in the agenda for the Tuesday session.  

The initiative for the sacking of Minister Dragan Mektic came from representatives of parties within the coalition in power in Republika Srpska (RS), Bosnia’s Serb-dominated semi-autonomous entity. They said that he did not respond to the migrant crisis that has taken its toll in Bosnia since the beginning of the year adequately and that he contributed to the inability of institutions to respond to it by providing false and incomplete information.  

Mektic, who is a member of a party within an opposition coalition in the RS, said earlier that the initiative against him has a political background and that ‘serious political parties’ will not support it.  

Lawmaker Aleksandra Pandurevic, who is a member of the same party, had proposed the initiative to be removed from the agenda reasoning that lawmakers have not received any formal opinion from the Council of Ministers on how their body would be reconstructed should the Minister be sacked.

Her proposal was supported by 19 lawmakers, while ten voted against it and three abstained.
