Territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina is not questionable and the mention of possible border changes serves only to election campaign purposes, said Bruce G. Berton, head of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in Bosnia.

Speaking for N1, Berton said there is no connection between the issue of Serbia-Kosovo border and Bosnia. “Territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina is unquestionable,” he said referring on the allegations on possible territory swap between Serbia and Kosovo, and possible repercussions on Bosnia.

Commenting on the upcoming start of the election campaign in the country, Berton said the politicians’ rhetoric is becoming inflammatory and he expressed a regret over that.

“Politicians should speak about the vital matters,” he added.

There is a possibility it will not be possible of difficulties to form the government after the October election due to the failure of political leaders to reach an agreement and conduct electoral reform, Berton warned. “The OSCE will continue calling on leaders to reach a compromise,” he said.

“This country lacks a political will to make changes. In order to reach the political will, it is necessary to talk,” said the Head of the OSCE Mission in Bosnia.

Speaking about the influx of migrants in Bosnia, Berton emphasized that the migrants’ human rights must be respected and that the state authorities must help the Border Police to tackle this issue.

Over 11,000 migrants entered Bosnia since the beginning of the year, according to the state institutions’ official data, finding a temporary shelter on their way to the western Europe countries.

Bosnia was bypassed on the migrant route during the 2015 and 2016 but as the border closed, this country has become their new transit route.
