A serious traffic accident took place near Brescia, Northern Italy when a bus driving high school students from Bosnia collided with a lorry. One of the bus drivers died in the crash while the students went unharmed.
“All the children are fine. Some 10 students were a bit shaken. After a medical exam, doctors concluded that students suffered no serious injuries so they were accommodated in a hotel in between the towns of Verona and Brescia,” Istocna Ilidza High School Management told N1.
N1 learned that one of the bus drivers died in the accident while the other driver suffered injuries.
According to Italian media reports, the injured were first taken to Civile Poliambulanzia and Sant'Anna hospitals.
The A21 road between Manerbio and Brescia was closed and police and fire brigade were deployed to the scene of the accident.
Bosnian Embassy in Italy confirmed that the accident took place at around 6:00 a.m. while students were returning from an excursion to Spain.
“According to our information, an accident between the ‘Globtour’ company’s bus and a lorry took place in the Brescia province. The bus drove 50 students and two teachers from Istocno Sarajevo high school. A driver named Ivan Celan (51) from Kiseljak had died and 22 students were injured in the accident. All the injured students were taken to local hospitals,” said Gildzana Tanovic from the Embassy.
She added that 34 students who were not injjured were taken to a local hospital from where they will be transported to the city of Padua.
According to Tanovic, the other bus driver was detained by the Brescia police pending the investigation.
