Where will migrants go when winter comes?

One of the immigration centres used for the accommodation of migrants who represent a danger to residents’ security, is already completely full, said Bosnia’s Service for Foreigners’ Affairs.

“The Istocno Sarajevo immigration centre’s been 80 to 90 percent full in the past seven months and we can’t use 100 percent of its capacities because we constantly receive readmission requests from the neighbouring countries, with which we must comply with,” Director of the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs Slobodan Ujic told N1.

He stressed that if the migrant pressure continues, they will try to expand the centre’s capacities but chances that this would happen by the end of this year are very slim.

“We are trying to isolate and place all those who constantly break law and commit crimes into the immigration center because they are wrongly affecting other migrants,” Ujic added.

He confirmed that the “Usvik” immigration centre near Hadzici (central Bosnia) will remain open where migrants will be able to get registered.

Currently, most of the migrants are situated in the Una-Sana Canton, to the North of the country, where their accommodation still remains an unresolved issue.

“The International Organisation for Migrations will try to create some kind of adequate accommodation centre in Borici, near Bihac (Northern Bosnia) so they could accommodate the migrants from that canton during the winter period,” Head of the Foreigners’ Service told N1.
