The European Handball Federation (EHF) passed no decision on suspending Bosnia's Handball Federation, which was earlier announced as a possibility, the EHF's spokesperson confirmed for N1.
“I can confirm that the topic of handball in Bosnia and Herzegovina was discussed at the meeting of the EHF Executive Committee in Barcelona today,” said J.J. Rowland, the EHF's spokesperson.
“The Executive Committee made note of the foundation of a new federation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the fact that this body has received recognition from the National Olympic Committee and is the process of being legally registered,” he added.
Bosnia's Handball Federation management resigned in late August and the Federation's Assembly appointed new members of the Steering Board. The Assembly enabled the newly appointed board to form two associations where one would be in charge of domestic competitions and another one in charge of the national handball team.
“It also highlighted the fact that this new body had secured the registration for the new season including EHF EURO 2020 Qualifiers and European Cup competitions,” said Rowland, adding, “As such the question of a suspension of Bosnia and Herzegovina's federation was not considered. The EHF will, however, continue to monitor the development of the new federation going forward.”
The new associations should get their own tax numbers and bank accounts, as the current tax number registered with the old account is burdened with large debts.
The new federation was registered in 2017 but had no bank account. Forming the two associations under the auspices of the new federation should enable the teams to take part in competitions and the national team in the European Cup.
