Minor incidents, higher voter turnout recorded

Addressing a press conference, Petric said four incidents were reported in the polling stations on the territories of each of Bosnia’s two entities Federation (FBiH) and Republika Srpska (RS).

He added the incidents were minor and were under control.

“Let me praise all the agencies that were exceptionally professionally doing their job together with prosecutor’s office,” said Petric.

As for the voter turnout by 3 pm, the commission president said it was by 0.6 percent higher than in the past general election by the same time.

“The voter turnout in FBiH is 34.65 percent, 41.81 percent in RS and 32.26 in Brcko District,” he added.

At the municipal level, the highest turnout was recorded in the municipalities of Banovici, Istocni Drvar, Ribnik, Sekovici, Han a and Kalinovik, and it was over 50 percent, according to Petric.

Polling stations for over three million of eligible voters opened on Sunday a.m. across the country and will close 12 hours later.

An election watchdog said in a press conference several hours after the election started said they registered 99 serious violations of the voting process by 9 a.m. They also said they received reports of tear gas thrown in the northern town of Doboj but the allegations were denied by the police.
