Blocking the implementation of election results and appointment of the new authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina would not be a good message for citizens or for the country's European path, European Parliament's (EP) Rapporteur for Bosnia and Herzegovina Cristian Dan Preda told Bosnian media.

Speaking for the Fena news agency, Preda said he was closely following the general election held in Bosnia on October 7 as well as the post-election period, stressing that despite minor irregularities the election was well-organised and carried out.

“Now we're expecting the end of the election process after the final results are published for all levels of authorities and a solution to the election disputes among the relevant representatives of authorities, but above all, we mostly expect the formation of the government,” Preda stressed.

The election campaign, according to the European Parliament member, revived the divisions and nationalist rhetoric, and it provided no proposal for implementation of reforms in the country.

He assessed as “justified” the remark by the European Union senior officials Federica Mogherini and Johannes Hahn, who said the election result's implementation would influence the European Commission's opinion on the country's application for the EU membership.

That applies to every country aspiring to become a part of the EU but it is also of exceptional importance in accomplishing the functional democracy, according to Preda.

Bosnia and Herzegovina must not waste any time on its path to the European Union and implementation of the essential reforms must not be further postponed, he underlined.
