Serbia women's volleyball team beat the Italian team 3:2 in a grand finale of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship in Yokohama, Japan.
Team Serbia came to Japan as Olympic silver medalists and European champions and this was the team’s first time ever to play in the world cup finals, and they managed to get the title on their first attempt.
Interestingly, coach Zorana Terzic’s team won the title at the same place where she won her first world medal with this team in 2006. Back then she won bronze.
Serbia beat Italy 3:2 (21:25, 25:14, 23:25, 25:19, 15:12) and on their way to the finals, they lost only twice, to Japan and the Netherlands.
The ‘Blue Ladies,’ as they are affectionately called, are the first team to have won the European and world title in a row since the Soviet Union in 1989 and 1990.
