A municipal council of a central Bosnian town of Zepca adopted an initiative on Tuesday to declare the newly elected Croat member of Bosnia's tripartite Presidency, Zeljko Komsic, a persona non grata in that town, it was confirmed for N1.
The initiative was backed by 15 votes, while four voted against it and six abstained from voting. It was explained for N1 in the Municipality of Zepce that this was only an initiative and still not a final decision to declare Komsic a persona non grata.
Zeljko Komsic, a social-democrat candidate was elected in the Bosnia's October 7 general election with 225,500 votes while his main opponent, Dragan Covic, now outgoing Croat member of the Presidency and leader of the main Croat party, the Croat Democratic Union (HDZ BiH), won 154,819 votes.
Covic, his HDZ BiH and the parties gathered around the Croat People's Assembly (HNS), the umbrella Croat political organisation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, strongly disapproved of Komsic's election, claiming that he was elected owing mostly to the Bosniaks’ votes.
The votes of HDZ BiH's delegates, 15 of them, in the Zepce municipal council were crucial in supporting the initiative regarding Komsic, who was previously declared a persona non grata in five of ten cantons in Bosnia's Federation (FBiH) entity, which are dominated by Croats.
Bosnia and Herzegovina consists of two entities, Federation that is shared by the Bosniaks and the Croats, and Republika Srpska (RS), dominated by the Serbs. Accordingly, the Constitution stipulates that the Serb member of the state tripartite Presidency is elected from RS, while the Bosniak and the Croat members to the Presidency are elected in FBiH.
