Sarajevo Canton (SC) Ministry of Interior (MoI) has officially asked for the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) regarding the investigation into what was assessed as a murder of two police officers in Sarajevo last Friday.

SC MoI Police Commissioner Mevludin Halilovic addressed the urgent session of Cantonal Assembly on Friday, where he said that 81 persons have undergone a criminal procedure within the investigation into the shooting which left the two police officers dead.

“We asked for the assistance of FBI too,” Halilovic stressed.

Adis Sehovic and Davor Vujinovic, police officers of SC Ministry of Interior, died in a shooting which took place last Friday in the Sarajevo's Alipasino neighbourhood in what looked like a car theft. Still unknown perpetrator(s) left the scene and have been at large since then.

In the days after the incident, Bosnia's law enforcement agencies of all levels of authority have opened a joint investigation aimed at finding the murderer(s) and bringing them to justice. Citizens staged protests in Sarajevo for a few days after the incident, saying that their safety was in jeopardy.

The Assembly's urgent session, scheduled by the Assembly Collegium and with only one item of agenda – the security situation in Sarajevo, passed several conclusions aimed to improve the security situation in Sarajevo Canton. They include video surveillance at all exit points of the canton, video surveillance in police vehicles as well as the GPS tracking of all police vehicles carrying the officers on duty.
