Una-Sana Canton’s government banned the formation of new migrant centres in this canton as well as all migrant accommodation in private facilities by international organisations without the previous consent from the local authorities.

During the Wednesday session, the government discussed coordination and oversight measures of the migrant crisis and decided to improve the control over the influx of illegal migrants and their movement in the canton.

They asked the International Organisation for Migrations (IOM) to provide the exact number of persons which can be accommodated in the following migrant centres: the Student Dorm, Hotel Sedra, Bira, Miral and Trnovo.

The IOM is also to inform the government on any capacity change in these centres.

The cantonal government also asked the IOM to form a security agency within the migrant centres they run and to form home rules for migrants, in cooperation with the Foreigners Affairs Office.

The IOM was instructed to move the migrants from the Miral hall in Velika Kladusa, north-western Bosnia, to the Usivak centre in Hadzici, Central Bosnia.

The government asked the State Security Ministry and all other police agencies to continue with the increased control of all passenger vehicles heading towards this canton in order to control the influx of migrants.  

Over 20,000 illegal migrants entered Bosnia since the beginning of the year, Minister for Human Rights and Refugees Semiha Borovac said during her recent visit to the north-western Bosnian region of Una-Sana Canton.

Although most of them express intention to seek the asylum, as a part of regular procedure upon entering the country, a very few have done so. Their final goal is reaching the European Union, which they try using illegal routes on the Bosnia-Croatia border.
