Sarovic: Serbs in Bosnia's institutions will not resign

Dodik is obviously not aware of his powers, said Bosnia’s Foreign Trade Minister Mirko Sarovic in response to the newly elected Serb Presidency member Milorad Dodik’s request that all Serbs working in Bosnia’s state institutions resign on Wednesday.

“He’s obviously not aware of his powers as Presidency member, but he will likely be informed of them in the next few days. His mandate is to deal with the foreign policy, together with the two of his colleagues,” Sarovic said. “He’s there to represent Bosnia, to deal with Bosnia’s Armed Forces, embassies and that’s it. I will perform my mandate until the very last day, as stipulated by the law.”

Bosnia's Presidency consists of three members, each coming from one of three constituent peoples, the Bosniaks, Serbs and Croats.

Bosnia’s Foreign Minister was also dismissive about Dodik’s proposal.

“I don’t exactly know what he was thinking. I represented Serbs and the Republika Srpska (RS) entity in my work. Everything I did was for the good of the RS and its international affirmation,” Minister Igor Crnadak said.

“We’re not going to resign before the end of our mandates, and he’ll have to wait for another 30 days.”
