A Pakistani national was arrested in the north-western town of Bihac on a suspicion of raping a 18-year-old woman, local police confirmed on Tuesday.
The crime was reported on Monday by the 18-year-old woman who said she was taken by two migrants to an unknown location within the town of Bihac, where one of them first physically assaulted and then raped her, according to the police report issued by the Una-Sana Canton Ministry of Interior.
The police identified A.D., a Pakistani national, as perpetrator and sent him to a competent prosecutor for further processing.
Approximately 22,400 migrants arrived in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2018, according to the European Commission. They found a temporary shelter in the country, hoping they would eventually move further to the European Union.
However, as Croatia keeps the border crossings closed for them, most of the migrants are trapped in the north-western towns of Bihac and Velika Kladusa, housed in temporary facilities managed by international humanitarian organisations.
