State prosecutors issued on Thursday a war crimes indictment against wartime Bosnian army general Ramiz Drekovic, the Prosecutor's Office confirmed to N1.

According to the indictment, Drekovic is charged with breaching the Geneva Convention on Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War during the 1992-95 Bosnian war.

Drekovic was at that time when the alleged crimes were committed the Commander of then Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina's 4th Corps.

“He is charged with issuing a direct, classified order in spring 1995 to artillery units covering the broader territory of the (southern) Konjic municipality to conduct non-selective shelling of Kalinovik village, inhabited by the Serb population,” reads the indictment.

According to prosecutors, a 15-year-old was killed in one of those shellings during the months of May and June 1995, while several children and adults suffered either slight or severe injuries.

“The shelling caused huge destruction of property and facilities,” according to the indictment.

Drekovic is charged with committing war crimes against civilians and the Prosecutor's Office said it will use testimonies of some 50 witnesses and experts along with over 200 pieces of evidence to prove the allegations from the indictment.

The indictment has been sent to the State Court for confirmation.
