Ramush Haradinaj, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, asked the European Union (EU) to react to what he said were calls from Banja Luka, the administrative centre of the Serb entity in Bosnia, for the conquering of Serbia’s former province, the Beta news agency reported.

He referred to songs sung by participants in the celebration of the Day of Republika Srpska, an unconstitutional holiday in the Serb-dominated part of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Haradinaj said it was an attempt to destabilise the entire Balkans and that what he called “provocations from Serbia concerning Kosovo continue ‘via its satellite’ called Republika Srpska.”

“Unfortunately, Serbia is refusing integration and European values. The units in Banja Luka with clearly paramilitary insignia in a provocative march meant to undermine the region, sing a song about Kosovo heroes with lyrics calling for revenge and the takeover of Kosovo,” Haradinaj wrote on his Facebook profile.

He added that “such units and a genocidal song are followed with chants against the European Union.” Such scenes, he said, “take us back to the time of (late Serbia’s leader) Slobodan Milosevic’s ‘apparatus’.”

Haradinaj harshly criticised the EU for turning a blind eye to “the calls for war and genocide” by the Serbs, blaming the bloc for reacting only related to “the Republic of Kosovo legitimate measures.”

He invoked the EU repeated demands to Kosovo’s Government to abolish the 100 percent import tariffs on goods from Serbia and Bosnia introduced last November and recently extended to the foreign products made in Serbia.

The EU said the measure was against the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA) and the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) which Kosovo signed with the bloc.

Haradinaj said that despite the calls from the EU and the US to reverse the decision it would stay in place until Belgrade recognised Kosovo’s independence. Serbia says it would never do that.

The measure prevents the resumption of the EU-facilitated Belgrade – Pristina dialogue on normalisation of relations which has been on halt for a while. Belgrade says no talks will be held before the decision on the tariffs is withdrawn.
