The Serbian police arrested six members of an organized crime group involved in smuggling migrants across the borders into neighbouring countries, the Organized Crime Prosecution said on Tuesday.

The police arrested the six unnamed individuals in Belgrade, Lazarevac and Arandjelovac and charged them with smuggling 42 migrants across the borders into Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Hungary in mid-2018.

“They transferred citizens of Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran and Syria into Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia and Hungary in transit to European Union countries. The group members charged each of the migrants 700 Euros,” a prosecution statement said.

The Serbian police have arrested a number of people involved in smuggling migrants across the borders since the migrant crisis started.
