It is a devastating fact that 74 years after the Holocaust, political parties that still hold on the Nazi heritage continue to exist in our country, Croat member of Bosnia’s tripartite Presidency said on the occasion of January 27, the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, marked in Sarajevo.
“We have gathered here to mark this historic date and pay our respects to victims of the Holocaust, the biggest and the most brutal crime of the past century,” Komsic said. “Unfortunately, we recently witnessed genocide and other horrific crimes here in Bosnia and Herzegovina.”
Speaking about political options in Bosnia that still hold on to the Nazi heritage he recalled the city of Mostar which has a number of streets named after the Holocaust participants.
He recommended the new generations to reject the ideology based on segregation, intolerance, disrespect and indifference for those who are different than them so that all the victims of monstrous crimes could find resting peace and their sacrifice would make sense.
“We mustn’t forget what happened. On the contrary, we have an even bigger obligation to build our future on the rule of law and respect for human rights and human dignity,” Komsic concluded.
The commemorative event was also attended by the Bosniak member of the tripartite Presidency, Sefik Dzaferovic.
Bosnia’s Presidency consists of three members, representing three constituent peoples, Bosniaks, Serbs and Croats. Bosnia’s Serb Presidency member is Milorad Dodik.
