War veterans' protest resumes ahead of first regular parliament session

Police forces have been securing the city centre surrounding the parliament building, which the veterans headed to from the nearby place they initially gathered at. The police are also securing the parliament building, preventing a possible veterans' forceful entrance into the building.

A central street was briefly blocked due to a long line of the protesters while they were approaching the building.

So far, no incident was reported at the site.

The protests had initially started last year but were interrupted due to the October election, to resume on the day when the first regular session of the House of Representatives was set to take place.

Former members of what was called the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the 1990s war demand from authorities to publish a single registry of war veterans, cut the financing of veteran associations and to secure money for the veterans allowance.

“We ask that all three demands are solved at the session today and we know the representatives can solve it in five minutes,” Drago Grbavac, a veteran, said on Thursday.
