The Young Vojvodina organization removed and burned a banner glorifying Bosnian Serb wartime political leader Radovan Karadzic, which was hanging off an overpass in the northern Serbian city of Novi Sad.
The activists posted pictures on the organization’s Instagram profile of the removal of the banner which said Radovan Karadzic Hero. Karadzic was sentenced to life in prison by the UN war crimes tribunal for crimes against humanity committed during the war in Bosnia.
A video post showed two people with their faces masked removing the banner, pouring liquid on it and burning it. The video ends with one of them raising four fingers in a salute widely used by people advocating autonomy for Serbia’s northern province of Vojvodina.
Mlada Vojvodina activists painted graffiti saying Vojvodina Republic with the organization logo in several places in Novi Sad earlier in the day.
