Head of EU delegation to Bosnia, Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, urged on Monday politicians to finally form the government at all levels after the October 2018 general election.

The European Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn clearly said, during his last week’s visit to Bosnia, that the EU and the European Commission wish that the government should be formed at all levels as soon as possible,” Wigemark said. “I can only reiterate that message.”

He pointed out that the reasonable date for the formation of the government of some six months after the election has passed.

The six months have passed. There still seems to be some manoeuvring and hesitation. The only message we can send on behalf of the EU is for them to finally get to it,” Wigemark noted.

Last Thursday, the EU’s Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn said, in Sarajevo, that the EU Commission could submit it’s opinion regarding Bosnia’s application to EU membership, provided that the government is formed at all levels in Bosnia.

After the October general election, Bosnia was able to form the government in only one of its two semi-autonomous entities, the Serb-dominated Republika Srpska (RS), as well as in cantons of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) entity, but not at the FBiH and State level.
