The Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) entity's government declared April 16 as the Day of Mourning on Sunday, following the Friday's tragic death of four elementary school teachers near Sarajevo.
During an emergency session, the Government said they express deep sympathy and condolences with the families of the deceased as well as entire Elementary School “Kovacici” for the insurmountable loss.
Four Sarajevo teachers, four teachers, Merima Balkic, Lejla Sadikovic, Almina Corovic and Mina Kadric, were returning from the Pale settlement near Sarajevo when their car ran off the road into the Miljacka river canyon. The tragedy was made worse by the fact that the teachers attended their colleague's funeral.
Prior to this decision, Sarajevo Canton's government also declared Tuesday as the Day of Mourning.
The Day of Mourning is marked by the mandatory display of the flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina at half-mast on government buildings and institutions of the FBiH.
