The commemoration of Slavisa Krunic, a businessman who was murdered earlier this week near his family house in the suburbs of Banja Luka, was held Thursday morning in this northwestern Bosnian city in presence of his family, friends and some public figures.
“Slavisa preferred to use his own mind. To say everything right to the face. He adored his country, but hated the wrong system,” said his friend, Rajnat Majstorovic, speaking at the commemoration.
Krunic was assassinated Monday night alongside his bodyguard, while his driver was injured.
One of the attackers, Zeljko Kovacevic, was killed as well in the shootout. Several suspects were detained and police are still searching for others who may have been involved in the murder.
Krunic's father said this was a contract killing.
“We're staying here to justify Slavisa's path. This is not about politics, this is a paid murder. I hope the Internal Affairs Ministry will solve the assassination soon,” he said.
Speaking of the investigation development, police chief Darko Culum said the officers found two rifles and the car used in the attack on Krunic.
One of the main suspects, Benedi Djukanovic, is still at large.
“The search for Djukanovic is ongoing, he will be put on an international warrant,” said Culum addressing the commemoration.
Emilio Balda, suspected as one of the main executors, has been arrested and handed over to the prosecutor.
Krunic will be buried on Thursday at the family cemetery in Glamocani.
