The 1 in 5 Million weekly protest in Belgrade took on a humanitarian tone on Saturday with the crowd contributing money for the treatment of a handicapped man.

The money, donated through SMS messages (631 sent to the number 3030) for Vuk Huljic who was left paralyzed after a fall on his job. The instructions were posted on the Poceloje.rs (pocelo je – it’s started in Serbian is one of the slogans used during protests against the Milosevic regime announcing its fall).

The All As One – 1 in 5 Million protest began in front of the fountain on central Terazije square, a traditional venue where protests were held for days in 1991 and again in the winter of 1995/96.

The crowd carried banners saying Serbia Won’t Calm Down and others including Easter-related messages and Serbian flags. A banner saying Neither One Nor the Other (Ni Kurta Ni Murta) drew some dissatisfaction from the crowd and was quickly taken down to prevent a possible incident after men who said they were from the police warned the group carrying it that it could cause problems.

This Saturday’s protest march is to the City Library at the end of Knez Mihailova Street with the crowd marching the long way around past Zeleni Venac market and the central city Church.
