Heavy rain is causing rivers in Bosnia to rise and some to burst out of their beds, flooding homes and roads, as authorities are warning citizens that the worst is yet to come.

More than 200 homes were flooded on Monday morning, mostly those along smaller rivers, such as Josavka, near Celinac, and Milosevica and Puharska, near Prijedor.

Several roads were closed due to floods but authorities said the worst is still to come. The peak is expected on Wednesday morning if the rain does not stop.

By then the water from the small rivers will reach the bigger ones like the Sava along the northern Bosnian border and Una in the northwest. If those burst their beds, they could jeopardize thousands of homes and businesses, similar to the calamity that occurred in May 2014, when a third of the country was flooded.
