A 16-year-old migrant from Afghanistan was murdered late on Thursday night outside the refugees’ camp in the Belgrade's Krnjaca suburb, N1 reported.
He was stabbed to death in what appears to be a revenge for taking part in the killing of 22-year-old Afghan migrant outside a cafe the night before, and unconfirmed information linked him to the smugglers in the region.
Serbia’s police said earlier they arrested one of the suspects and were searching for the man who was later murdered.
According to N1 sources, Croatia’s police arrested the killed teenager in January when he attempted to cross there from Serbia. Croatia sent him back to Serbia and a misdemeanour court put him in a jail with adults, which was an illegal decision. The court said it did not have information he and the other two teenagers, in the same jail, were minors.
“The police denied them the right to free legal aid, right to an interpreter and the right to plea about the violations of the law they are charged with,” Nikola Kovacevic from the Belgrade Centre for Human Rights said.
