After a three-hour meeting, authorities in the northwestern Una-Sana Canton (USK) decided to not proclaim a state of emergency because of the migrant crisis, but concluded that they will limit the movement of migrants and urgently create conditions for transporting them to a reception centre in Vucjak, USK.
The transport should be organised by the local municipalities and governments and should be supported by the Red Cross, UNHCR and IOM.
Thousands have entered Bosnia on their way toward the EU since the beginning of 2018. The country became a significant transit point after numerous surrounding states closed their borders, with the USK area being most affected.
Authorities demanded that the public railroadcompany stops transporting migrants to the town of Bihac.
The Croat member of Bosnia’s tripartite Presidency, Zeljko Komsic, has asked for an urgent session to take place regarding the migrant situation in USK.
