Residents of the migrant centre in the northwestern Bosnian town of Cazin are still in shock after Abdulhamed Noori from Afghanistan drowned in the nearby Una river in front of his two children.

“Yesterday at about 2 pm he went swimming with his two children, although the water was cold,” Majvand Fejzi, Noori’s brother-in-law told N1. “We were heading to the shop to buy some groceries and then we saw him calling for help,” he said.

Noori went swimming near the Sedra hotel which is being used as a migrant reception centre.

“When I went to the other side and entered the river, he was gone already,” he said.

Those at the Sedra hotel, most of all Nuri’s wife and children, are devastated.

“People in the camp feel bad. There is a family. Those small children. The woman is constantly crying. She begged us, ‘find my husband, where is my husband’,” said one of the migrants, Selman Gulzana.

Divers found Noori’s body at about 3 pm on Wednesday.
